Zaha Hadid Architects is planning a large-scale exhibition at the Jiade Art Center called “Future Realm – Zaha Hadid Architects Special Exhibition”, which reviews the firm’s 40 years of practice.
Currently, in China, there are 25 projects under construction by ZHA, and some are still in the design stage.
On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of its roots in Beijing and the 20th anniversary of its practice in China, ZHA joined hands with the Jiade Art Center to present a grand banquet about the future world.
Taking this opportunity, “Wallpaper *” has a conversation with ZHA’s Director of China, Qiao Yu, to discuss the process of ZHA’s practice in China, as well as his latest work, “Future Realm – Zhaha Hadid Architecture Firm Special Exhibition”, which he has been working hard with more than ten colleagues for a long time.
Zaha Hadid collaborated with Google’s Arts and Culture department in 1983 to develop a series of virtual reality experience works called ‘The World’.
From his first visit to China in 2005 to his current position as ZHA’s regional director in China, Satoshi Ohashi recalled in an interview what he had said to Zaha earlier: “I told her that if we want to work on projects in China, we cannot just send emails to work, we need to come here in person, otherwise it will be difficult to succeed.” So he came to Beijing in 2008 to establish an office and establish a deep and lasting connection with the city, In the process of urbanization in China, the project has spread to major cities such as Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Shanghai, and Shenzhen.
The new mural above the space is named ‘The NewWorld’, which is a response to ‘The World’ 40 years ago.
Between the “world” and the “new world”, ZHA has continuously broken boundaries and changed the world for 40 years.
This is the best projection of ZHA’s initial vision and judgment.
To some extent, designing architecture is about designing the future
.
In 1983, the ambition and creativity of architect Zaha Hadid were fully demonstrated in an artwork titled ‘The World’; In 2003, the Guangzhou Opera House started the project practice of Zaha Hadid Architecture Firm (hereinafter referred to as ZHA) in China; 20 years later, an exhibition called “The NewWorld Future” opened at the Jiade Art Center in Beijing.
This work explores and contemplates the application of new architectural design tools, transforming the painting into VR and constructing a virtual space that can be experienced 360 °.
