Guilin, green mountains and green waters, a group of girls in red under the cover of bamboo canopy Pavilion, laughing, jumping, resting, and running past
.
The landscape is as silent as ever, and the bamboo canopy Pavilion continues to stand empty
.
The bamboo Pavilion, designed by architect Liu Hanxiao, has been fully integrated into the landscape and grows naturally with the mountains, forests and grass
.
Along the Lijiang River in Yangshuo, Guilin, the classic play impression · Liu Sanjie, which has been staged for 15 years, has become a part of local culture
.
Whenever night falls, the audience need to walk a long mountain road before they reach the deepest shore of the Lijiang River
.
Now, a brand-new “bamboo canopy Pavilion” has emerged from this journey
.
In the words of designer Liu Hanxiao, it is called “bamboo Pavilion”
.
Panorama of bamboo corridor
.
The project is located in the impression of Liu Sanjie Park in Yangshuo, with endless green plants surrounded by large hills and boulders
.
Based on this understanding of the site, natural elements themselves become the premise of the architectural conceptual design, especially bamboo
.
It consists of two parts: “bamboo lantern in the center” and “handicraft bamboo art corridor”
.
The bamboo lamp part adopts arched door opening shape, far and near size, scattered
.
The smaller bamboo lamp will send out mottled light signals to guide visitors, while the larger one can also become a space for people to stay
.
The bamboo lamp is made of hand cut bamboo strips, bound and wrapped with natural bamboo poles, which are naturally shaped without any glue or nails to maintain its shape and texture, presenting the most realistic light penetration effect
.
At night, it will become a floating cloud like a lamp, and the bottom pillar will disappear
.
Bamboo canopy details
.
It floats among the scattered bamboo clumps
.
At first glance, it seems that it almost does not rely on structural support
.
Only the bamboo clumps pass through the circular opening space of the bamboo shed and grow upward, while the structural columns as thick and thin as bamboo in it begin to rotate upward and outward from their footholds and twist, just like imitating the growth pattern of bamboo, they also grow into the circular opening space and connect with the bamboo shed The internal structure is connected
.
Due to the epidemic situation, the actual construction process of “bamboo canopy Pavilion” is not smooth, and some design effects are not ideal
.
The designer also encountered one of the bottom limits in his imagination: the flood disaster in Yangshuo in early June this year
.
But there are surprises in the dilemma
.
The design changed because of the budget cut of the epidemic has taken on a more light and vivid form; because of the baptism of the flood, the whole structure has been specially strengthened, and will be intact for at least ten years – only need to carry out routine repair every one to two years; and it no longer only belongs to the night – because the performance time is at night, and the hand woven bamboo corridor and bamboo lamp are bright in the daytime Under the sun, it presents a fine texture and becomes a landscape
.
In the process of building construction
.
The surface of the bamboo shed is completely made of irregular hand-woven bamboo strips, which are the same as those of the bamboo lamp
.
The local team of craftsmen intertwined countless bamboo strips with each other in a random way, without any glue or nails to maintain their shape and texture
.
It even has its own exact function: shelter from the rain
.
But at the same time, it is also expected to re stimulate the local cultural atmosphere, dramatic spirit and beauty, which has been achieved by a group of young actors in red clothes cheerfully passing through the “bamboo Pavilion”
.
The actors of “impression of Liu Sanjie” are walking through the bamboo Pavilion
.
Q & A Q: internia: Liu Hanxiao Q: how can the dramatic spirit of “impression of Liu Sanjie” be reflected in the design details? A: It is based on a performance about the impression of Liu Sanjie
.
It itself is a very famous performance, but because of the age, it has gradually faded in the society and the crowd
.
This building is expected to enhance the atmosphere of the entire cultural park where the performance is located, so that people are willing to re experience and feel the dramatic spirit and aesthetic feeling of the performance itself
.
At the same time, I hope it can attract relatively young groups, make it younger, and continue its content spirit in different times
.
“Impression · Third Sister Liu” song and dance stills
.
Reflected in the design, I think it can be refined as: localization
.
The dramatic spirit of “impression of Liu Sanjie” performance is that it selects young actors from the local rural children and trains them to grow into actors of this drama
.
There is a background of “growth”, which is a very localized and simple concept
.
Therefore, we start from this starting point in design, that is, the spirit of continuity from generation to generation, just like the drama itself
.
Q: How does the physical and geographical environment of the building affect the design? A: We saw some surprises at the scene
.
There was a long and thin road leading up the mountain to the performance
.
The height of bamboo on both sides fell naturally, and then formed a natural bamboo corridor
.
This makes us feel that the next design should not conflict with the local nature, and the material we are considering is bamboo
.
We hope to use a geometric form to continue the spatial feeling formed by bamboo
.
Bamboo corridor details
.
The integration of hand weaving culture, the use of bamboo materials and the natural bamboo forest environment, the undulating inverted terrain of bamboo shed dancing among the bamboo pillars, and the posture of structural columns echoing with the growth form of bamboo
.
It is located on the only way for the audience to walk to the performance site after the security check
.
What we have to do is to make them feel no visual fatigue in this distance
.
Therefore, we designed two parts: one is the bamboo corridor, the other is the bamboo lamp
.
The main significance of the bamboo lamp area is to achieve a visual proportion and spatial ambiguity, near, far, large and small, so that the road will not be very long visually
.
Some bamboo lamps look small, but in fact they are very close to each other; some look big, but in fact they are very far away, and only when they get close to each other can they find that they are actually an accessible space
.
It’s very interesting for us to use this method to make people feel
.
Bamboo cluster column details
.
Q: Please share the design (lighting system) of the bamboo lamp (lantern) system as the “guide” in the “bamboo lamp is not in the center” section, and how it forms an interesting interaction with people
.
A: It is a 140 meter long straight-line walk, which is relatively boring
.
In addition, we consider that most of the audience come from families together
.
Therefore, the bamboo lamp we designed under the corridor does not feel like seeing through at a glance
.
It has different sizes
.
People of different sizes will experience different spaces and take different roads
.
In this process, they will find that these are not only lights, but also a rest space, and some even hide behind a small bamboo bush
.
Therefore, it is a feeling of seeking and hiding
.
This long road has been interrupted and has become a moving line in different directions
.
The way and time of staying are also different, so it will not be a straight line on the hot spot map
.
In fact, this is a rich “waiting time” lighting system
.
Bamboo lamp design effect picture
.
In the narrative streamline and interactive situation, visitors move from one bamboo lamp to another space
.
These subtle details together stimulate a specific awareness perception framework, which provides the best psychological and cultural bedding for visitors to watch and impression Liu Sanjie’s performance
.
Q: Based on the actual conditions, what is the regretful part that has not been completed according to the original plan? A: Unfortunately, there is no way to present the lighting system at night, because I think the floating feeling of the “corridor” may be in a very illusory state
.
I don’t know if there is any way to realize it
.
Ideally, when the audience is watching the performance, its overall light will disappear one by one, and the bamboo awning will light up, forming a completely floating state.
.
