Environmental friendly building Deichman Bj ø rvika │ Aesthetics of the interwoven design of geometry and light well of Daichmann Library

Narrow heat shields are used alternately with narrow glass panels.

The roof has a unique folding geometry that provides structural strength.

The rooms and alcoves create a stage for temporary installations and exhibitions, with rich colors and atmosphere.

The interior diffuse glass alleviates the impression of the closed panel and creates a soft and uniform indoor light.

Daylight wells connect the floor and distribute daylight from the three large skylights of the roof.

Visitors are received by three identical entrances facing different directions.

In order to create an enhanced sense of openness and connection with the city, the facade of the first floor is completely transparent.

Two Hole Anchor

In order to avoid building too many floors, the building adopts the overhanging method: the first floor is located above the east street, and the fourth floor is located nearly 20 meters above the city square, creating a protective layer for the entrance.

The facade is relatively closed, enhancing the impression of life and activities inside the daylighting well and library.

Therefore, we have created an open and interesting space to encourage tourists to go to every corner of the place and discover new things.

The concrete structure around the bare well and the folding roof is a lasting element, giving the building a permanent and recognizable quality.

An open public space dominates the interior, complete with furniture and activities.

The facade combines a high insulation value with a uniform distribution of sunlight.

The enclosed space and niches are organized around three independent book towers, liberating the facade and allowing sunlight to flow in from all directions.

In 2009, LundHagem and Atelier Oslo won the international architectural design competition for the new main library in Oslo.

The librarian hopes that this building can stimulate tourists to explore new facilities and activities of modern libraries.

Open areas have more neutral colors and permanent surfaces of solid materials.

In the corner of the building, the panoramic window opens the view in different directions, adding variety and tension to the interior.

DeichmanBj ø rvika is an environment-friendly building with innovative solutions in facade, ventilation and material use..

The cantilevered floor is suspended above the roof.

This largest cantilever shows the building to the city and still retains the view of the adjacent opera house.

Three “light wells” cut diagonally through the building from each entrance, providing a glimpse of different parts of the library.
