Fuyang on the banks of the Fuchun River, formerly known as “Fuchun”, is also the final resting place of Huang Gongwang and the creative site of “Dwelling in Fuchun Mountain”.

In the Qing Dynasty (around 1650), this legendary work was destroyed by a fire and split into two.

Part of the “Leftover Mountain Map” is currently preserved at the Zhejiang Provincial Museum in Hangzhou, while the other part, known as the “Useless Teacher Scroll,” is housed in the National Palace Museum in Taipei.

The long scroll “Dwelling in Fuchun Mountain” depicts the scenery of Fuchun River and surrounding mountains where Huang Gongwang lived and traveled, revealing the painter’s attempt to seek a poetic place for dialogue and meditation with nature in the mountains and waters of Fuchun River.

This famous painting was later collected by several collectors and passed down to this day through continuous imitation and reference by later generations of painters.

Therefore, Fuyang, which is closely related to the painting theme, is recognized as an ideal place for “hermit life”.
