In 2025, the Yuehai Street Cultural and Sports Center in Shenzhen (hereinafter referred to as the Yuehai Cultural and Sports Center), designed by Urban Practice, will be officially put into operation.

5-meter-high building, covering an area of only 5761 square meters, vertically integrates multiple public functions such as a sports hall, library, swimming pool, theater, social health center, climbing gym, fitness center, tennis court, etc.
In the high-density built environment of Yuehai Street in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, the completion of this building seems to be just a natural continuation of Shenzhen’s urban development logic: due to the shortage of urban land, buildings are developing upwards.
However, when we examine it from the perspective of architectural typology, a deeper question arises: is the Yuehai Cultural and Sports Center just another routine sample of high-density urban construction, or does it mean a new push for existing types in the contemporary context?.
