Amidst the shimmering waves and lush greenery of West Lake in Fuzhou, the Fujian Museum features a series of gray white, layered architectural blocks lying quietly by the water’s edge.
It is a comprehensive museum that integrates the History Museum, Natural History Museum, Fujian Taiwan Exchange Center, Jicui Garden Art Museum, and Archaeological Research Institute.
The project site is located on the north side of West Lake Park, surrounded by water on three sides, with a total land area of approximately 89 acres.
The design scheme was led by Academician Qi Kang and completed in collaboration between the Institute of Architecture at Southeast University and the Fujian Provincial Institute of Architectural Design and Research.
The design is guided by the concept of “being close to nature, integrated into gardens, not striving for excellence, and striving for uniqueness”.
Starting from the urban and environmental scales, the building is integrated into West Lake, becoming a “museum garden”.
